The CQC, or Care Quality Commission, is a regulatory body who monitors the quality of care homes in England. The CQC ensures that care organisations are providing an acceptable quality of care. Just like all other care providers, Little Croft is registered to the CQC and aims to conform to their high standards. After our most recent inspection we are proud to announce that we are rated GOOD!

What Standards Do We Meet to Be Rated Good?

By being rated GOOD it means that Little Croft is running well and meeting all expectations set out by the CQC. In order to arrive at this decision, the CQC asked the following five key questions about those in our care; not only did we get rated Good overall, but also for each specific question.

Are Those Being Cared for Safe?

This means all those in care are safe from abuse and any avoidable harm. By achieving GOOD from the CQC, it means that our residents are well looked after and that there are few risks to them. The CQC agreed that medicines were managed safely, and any incidents were appropriately recorded and learnt from.

Are the Care Services Effective?

This question asks if the treatment and support given achieves positive outcomes and if the care provided improves overall quality of life. The CQC will evaluate the effectiveness of services like dementia care and palliative care, and review outcomes.

Are the Staff Caring?

It is important to the CQC that carers are empathetic and compassionate; when they visited Little Croft, they found this to be the case. All our carers are handpicked for their work ethic and eagerness to improve the lives of our residents, and they also receive quality training so we can constantly improve the standard of care provided.

Are Services Responsive to People’s Needs?

Being responsive to the needs of our residents means that we take into consideration the specific circumstances of everyone. To help with this, we create personalised care plans for each of our residents after speaking with the resident themselves, and those close to them; this plan is then kept up to date of any changes in care requirements. The CQC recognised this during their inspection.

Is the Home Well Led?

The CQC will make sure that those in leadership positions are appropriately governing the care organisations and that this is leading to the provision of quality care. The CQC agreed that the manager at Little Croft had good oversight of the home and had appropriate quality assurance systems in place to guarantee a good level of care.

How Do the CQC Arrive at Their Decision?

The CQC try to gather as much information in their inspection time as they can in order to arrive at an accurate decision. Not only do they observe the care while they visit but they also take a more in-depth look at other areas. This involves speaking with the residents, their families, and care home staff, as well as observing the care pathways of individual residents, reviewing records, documents and policies, and simply inspecting the home itself. After doing this, with the five questions above in mind the CQC concluded that Little Croft deserves to be rated GOOD.
