Bristol’s historic harbour is a great place to start your exploration of the city. It’s home to a number of attractions, including the Brunel’s SS Great Britain, the world’s first ocean-going iron ship. The ship is now a museum and offers visitors an immersive experience, taking them back to the 19th century. It’s a great attraction for those who enjoy history, and there are plenty of opportunities to learn about Bristol’s past.

After seeing the history that the harbour has to offer, there are various boat tours, which are a great way to see the city from a different perspective. Some boat tours have accessibility options, but make sure to check before travelling if this is needed. You can choose from a number of different tour operators, each offering their own unique experience. Some of the tours are hop-on-hop-off, which means you can get on and off at different points along the route.

The harbour area also has an array of independent pubs, cafes, and restaurants which are perfect to sit and watch the world go by.

The Clifton Suspension Bridge is one of Bristol’s most iconic landmarks, and an exciting thing to do in Bristol for the elderly. The bridge is over 150 years old, and it still attracts visitors from all over the world with its interesting history and stunning views.

Open to both pedestrians and vehicles, the bridge offers several viewpoints from which you can take in the stunning views of the city and the Avon Gorge. There is also an observatory, where you can learn more about the bridge and its history, as well as visit the cafe for a well-earned cup of tea or coffee.

There are a number of green areas by the bridge itself or slightly up the hill where the observatory is, perfect for a family picnic on a warm sunny day.
